A Message from the Office of the Superintendent

Remote School Day Clarification

Dear Families and Friends of the Augusta School Department,

The following is a brief note to offer clarity to our Remote School Day plans for this winter.  The goal is to implement a remote instructional option so these days can count towards the required 175 days of instruction for the school year, thereby reducing the number of make-up days in June.  Again, we ask for everyone’s patience as we try this out this winter for the first time.

  • We will have a mix of traditional snow days and remote school days.  The Board has approved a maximum of 5 remote school days.

  • The decision will be made by 1 p.m. the day prior to any remote school day, based on my level of confidence in the weather forecast.

  • For Elementary (PreK-6): Teachers will send home a "Remote Roadmap," a paper packet with various learning activities.

  • For Secondary (7-12): Students will bring their Chromebooks home, and their "Remote

Roadmap" will include online assignments, videos, activities, etc. which will be done on Google Classroom.

  • Although assignments are due the next day, students will have 3 days to submit

    completed work for attendance credit.

  • All students can reach out to teachers for assistance between 8-11 a.m. on Remote School

    Days.

  • Student needs related to additional supports (ESOL, 504, IEP, etc.) will have modified

work provided on a case by case basis.

If you have questions please contact your school's principal.

Sincerely,

Mike Tracy

Superintendent of Schools
