Principal's Report

Greetings and welcome to Cony Middle and High School's February's Newsletter

Schedule Change Community Forum and Input

There is a proposal to change our High School schedule from a 4X4 to a rotating block schedule. We have been using the 4X4 schedule for the last 20 years.  Our staff has found that there are many challenges by the schedule and want to move to a rotating block schedule.   A proposal was presented to the Curriculum and Education committee and was accepted to move forward to the Augusta School Board on Feb. 11th.  We are looking for feedback from our parents/guardians on this proposal.  We are hosting a community forum and a google feedback form for input on the proposal.  The form will go out through email to families.  We are hosting an informational community forum on the schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd at 6:00pm in the Cony auditorium.

Humanity Day

MS and HS students participated in a structured learning series focused on respectful language and communication. This work is grounded in student feedback and is designed to help all students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn.  We had a workshop on Jan. 29th and will have three extended homeroom periods (February 11, March 11, and April 8) to talk about using kind words.  The theme is "Words Count".The training addresses: How words can impact others, even when intended as jokes, The difference between intent and impact, Skills for speaking up, seeking help, and supporting peers.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences have been scheduled for February 26, 2026 from 4:00-7:30.   Based on parent/guardian feedback, we will be doing the hybrid approach again for these conferences (parents/guardians can do them through the phone or come in person.  We are going to try to have the first conferences through phone or zoom (4-5:45) and the 2nd half will be in person(5:45-7:30).  That being said, if you are unable to do these times, schedule when it works for you.  We use a program called PTCfast to schedule our conferences.  Here is a link for you to sign up for Parent Teacher Conference with your student's teachers.  https://ptcfast.com/schools/Cony_Middle_and_High_School

Communication Strategies with families

Don't forget we contact families in a number of ways.  We post on our augustaschools.org website and we also have Facebook and Instagram accounts.   In addition, we send out emails to our families.  If you are not receiving our emails, please contact us to add your email.  We hope our newsletters also provide information to our students and families.

Wrestling

North A Regional - Feb. 7 at Cross Insurance Center, Bangor

Class A States - Feb. 14 at Cony HS (exciting opportunity for us to host!)

Outlook: A young team, we have a few athletes with an opportunity to finish in the top 4 of their weight class. If you get an opportunity to come to the states you should go. Great atmosphere and wrestlers are a tough group of kids who deserve more attention.

Cheering

Class B Regional - Jan. 31 at Sanford HS

Outlook: The team has suffered injuries late in the season but a solid core group has made huge improvements over last season. With several athletes ready to join next year this is a program that will continue to rise.

Indoor Track

KVAC Championships - Feb. 9 at 8:30am at Bowdoin College

Class A States - Feb. 16 at 12:00 at USM

Outlook: Our team is in a Co-op with Hall-Dale and Winthrop. The Boys teams will look for a top 4 finish- at KVACs and qualify for states. The girls team will have some individuals who will place at both the championship meets.

Quarters - Feb. 13/14

Semis - Feb. 18

Quarters - Feb. 13/14

Semis - Feb. 18
