High School Schedule Change for 2026-27

There is a proposal to change our High School schedule from a 4X4 schedule to a rotating block schedule.   Our staff has found that there are many challenges by the 4X4 schedule and want to move to a rotating block schedule.  The biggest challenge is that students are not retaining information and are struggling on achievement tests.  In the 4X4 schedule a student may have math in the fall of their freshmen year and not have it again until the spring of the sophomore year.  Cony is really struggling with this schedule.  Many other schools in Maine have moved away from the 4X4 schedule in favor of the rotating block (Red Days and White days)  A proposal was presented to the Curriculum and Education committee and was accepted to move forward to the Augusta School Board on March 11th.  We received feedback from our parents/guardians and students on this proposal. In addition, we hosted a community forum for information on the proposal.  If you want more information, please contact an administrator.

Communication Strategies with families

Don't forget we contact families in a number of ways.  We post on our augustaschools.org website and we also have Facebook and Instagram accounts.   In addition, we send out emails to our families.  If you are not receiving our emails, please contact us to add your email.  We hope our newsletters also provide information to our students and families.

Health Center

Health Suite News!

Don't forget that we received a grant to have a School Based Health Clinic at Cony.  We have a Nurse Practitioner and Physician's Assistant who visit Cony for 15 hours per week.  Parents need to provide permission for students to be a part of the School Based Health Center.  Call us if you have questions.

Respiratory Season

We are still in Respiratory season . We encourage staff and students to focus on the steps you can take
to keep healthy:
 Stay up to date with vaccinations.
 Stay home if you are sick. (Please refer to the Cony website on policy)
 Practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of disease:
o   Cough and sneeze into your elbow, or into a tissue. Throw this tissue away.
o   Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.
o   Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes. Germs can be spread by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Vision screening
The health center is still doing vision screening for our 7th and 9th graders! Reports of screenings that need follow up by an eye doctor will be going out via mail as soon as the screenings are complete. Please keep an eye out for them. If you do not receive a letter in the mail, your student passed their vision screen and there were no worries.

Put down those energy drinks!
Give your body fuel for the day without those crashes Mid-Day.
Top energy-boosting foods provide sustained fuel through complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and protein,
including bananas, oatmeal, avocados, nuts, eggs, fatty fish, and leafy greens. These nutrient-dense foods prevent blood sugar crashes, offering steady energy, improved focus, and sustained vitality throughout the day.
