It is hard to believe that Quarter 1 is ending and we are starting with Quarter 2 on November 4th. We have had great learning and activities for Quarter 1.
Here are some updates about Cony:
One of our district goals is to improve the culture and climate of our schools. We are looking for feedback from parents/guardians about the Augusta School Department. Please use this link to complete a climate survey. We appreciate your feedback. Here is the link: Family Input Survey We have a survey for students to complete as well. We will have students complete the survey at school.
Our staff is reading a book called "The Regulated Classroom." We had the author, Emily Read Daniels, train our staff on strategies from the book. The author talks about using connectors, activators, settlers and affirmations to help students in the classroom. In our training we also talked about the book "The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is causing an epidemic of Mental Illness" by Jonathan Haidt. In the book, the author discusses the influence of cell phones and social media and its impact on students. After presenting data about the challenges of social media, the author asks schools to take a leadership role in eliminating cell phone use during the school day. We want to thank our parents, guardians, staff, and students in making this happen at Cony.
Our Middle School has been participating in schoolwide Clue game where they have guesses about what happened and they earn prizes. The teachers are playing characters in this game. Each day the students hear a skit which identified clues for their guesses. In addition, there is a bulletin board of information for the students. Our middle school students seem to be enjoying the game so ask them about it at home!
We had a very successful Homecoming this fall. It was great to see our athletics perform their best. We are working at improving our school spirit as the pandemic put a pause on many of Cony's long standing traditions. Our cheerleaders put together an amazing pep rally and it was great to bring our student body together and celebrate. We are fortunate to have a spirited student body.
The Key Club raised over $650 for the Family Violence Project at the annual Calloway Coffeehouse. We had many talented musicians and poets share their work at the event.
We are hosting our Quarter 1 Recognition Assemblies at the end of the month. We love to celebrate the accomplishments of our students.
As a reminder, there is no school on November 11th in celebration of Veteran's Day. In addition, there is no school on November 27, 28 or 29 in celebration of Thanksgiving.
Thank you for all of your continued support,
Kim Liscomb, Principal

The Fall Season is winding down with only our football team still involved in the play-offs. The fall teams had some standout moments and individual performances:
Volleyball finished 12-3 and earned the #4 seed in the state wide play-off. Senior Addie Lebel was named KVAC player of the year and teammates Brooklyn Barbeau (1st Team), Penelope Fyfe (2nd Team) and Ellie Gould (2nd Team) made all-conference teams. Coach Lindsey Morin was named Coach of the Year.
Field Hockey lost a heartbreaker in the B North semifinals but continued their recent string of successful seasons. Finishing the year ar 12-4, the seniors led the way and three were named all-KVAC: Abby Morrill and Caroline Hendrickson to 1st Team and Natalie Dube made 2nd team. With a strong returning group the team will look to be right back in the play-offs next year.
Cross Country saw a return to solid participation numbers and an improving season. At the Festival of Champions at Belfast, every Cony runner saw a personal best time. Loralie Grady and Isaiah Sabean both finished 7th in the KVAC championship meet.
The golf team finished just outside of the play-offs this year. Lilah Goldey became Cony’s first female golfer to qualify for the girls state championship and senior Bo Gutierrez also qualified for states and was named all-conference. Coach Shawn Johnson was named COY.
Boys Soccer qualified for the state Class B tournament and fell to Elsworth in the play-in game. It was a year of growth for the team as they are starting to build the program back. Freshman Manny Stevens was named to the all-conference team and was one of many young players ready to return next season.
Girls Soccer struggled to find the win column but nonetheless had a great season. The positive energy and weekly improvement were noticeable to all that watched. Freshman Kya Douin was named to the all-conference team and junior defender Abby Brown was named 2nd team. The core of the team is very young and will look to make huge strides next season.
Football earned the #2 seed for the upcoming Class B North play-offs after going 5-3 in the regular season. With only seven seniors on the roster, the program is ready to compete for a championship this season as well as in the future. A highlight to the season was celebrating the 7th win in a row of Gardiner! The all-conf awards will not be announced until after the season is over.
Winter sports are just around the corner! Player/Parent meeting is on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 in the Cony Auditorium. Practices start on Nov. 18th!

Hello Cony students and families!
A reminder to all parents that the 90-day grace period for immunizations is quickly approaching. If your student has been seen by their PCP since the start of school or has an upcoming appointment, please remember to have any updated records faxed to the school nurse. The fax number is 207-620-8102.
Germ season is upon us and so are the holidays! Please be mindful when attending large gatherings and spending extended periods of time around those who are symptomatic. Ensure that your student has a water bottle that can be used at school and send snacks. Students who eat nutritiously and drink plenty of fluids will have a stronger immune system!
As a reminder: It is our expectation that a student will be FEVER FREE for 24 HOURS prior to returning to school (without the use of fever reducing medicine). We also ask that the student’s symptoms (runny nose, cough, sore throat, etc.) are improving. These guidelines apply to the common cold, influenza, COVID or any other contagion. Stay healthy!
