February 2025
Principals Corner

Dear Hussey Families,

February is a wonderful month filled with learning, kindness, and opportunities for growth! As we move further into the school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate our students’ hard work and dedication. Their enthusiasm for learning and their kindness toward one another make our school a special place.

We are looking forward to our Family Valentine Night on February 13. This will be a great opportunity for families to spend time together and celebrate the spirit of kindness and togetherness. We hope to see you there!

Please note that school will be closed for February vacation from February 17-21. We hope everyone enjoys a restful and refreshing break. Classes will resume on Monday, February 24.

February is also a time to reinforce the importance of kindness and respect. We encourage our students to show appreciation for their classmates, teachers, and families by practicing acts of kindness each day.

As always, thank you for your continued support in making our school a welcoming and enriching environment for all students. If you have any questions or need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,
Tina Brackley McDonald

Art

Grades K, 1 & 2 artists: Continuing their study of Geometric and Organic Shapes, Little Artists are putting those shapes to good use - creating bird collages and Heart-Art inspired by artist, Jim Dine!

Grades 3 & 4 artists: Artists are studying world-renowned abstract artist Henri Matisse and how he used scissors and paper to “paint” pictures while creating their own Matisse-inspired shape-collage.

Grades 5, & 6 artists: There has been a music-lesson in art class this month while artists continue their study of the abstract artist, Wassily Kandinsky, who heard-music-as-he-painted and painted-as-he-heard music. Students have created their own Kandinsky musical composition in the process using different materials and techniques!

Music

Grades K-3 are learning about tempo this month.  Students will be able to demonstrate movement, singing, and playing instruments to music with varying tempos.

Grade 4 classes are working on playing the recorder.  Students are beginning to be able to read notes accurately on the music staff.

Grade 5 classes are learning to play the ukulele.  They are learning basic chord structures in popular music.

Grade 6 classes are learning about the history of jazz music.  They are studying various composers and musicians from different styles of jazz music.

PE

Our shortest month of the year is focused on family fun games. Students get to use a seven lane bowling alley, as well as a full 12 hole mini golf course. These are some of the longest setups I do for seriously cool PE time! Students are practicing scoring and keeping track of their own and their partners scores.
Feb 3rd - 7th: Bowling 2

Feb 10th-14th: Free Choice Day 4

Feb 17th - 21st: Vacation

Feb 24th - Feb 28th: Mini Golf

Attendance Matters

At Hussey Elementary School, we are committed to providing the best education and opportunities for your child’s success. Attendance plays a crucial role in student success! As we move through February, we want to emphasize the importance of consistent attendance and arriving on time each day. Here are a few key reminders:

✅ Goal: Strive for 95% or higher attendance this month as a school.
⏰ Punctuality Matters: Every minute counts—being on time ensures students don’t miss valuable instruction.
💡 Healthy Habits: Encourage proper rest and morning routines to help students be school-ready.
📌 Absences: If your child must miss school due to illness, please notify the office as soon as possible.

Let’s work together to make February a month of strong attendance and engaged learning! Thank you for your continued support.
