Principals Corner

Dear Hussey Families,

Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, we are filled with excitement and anticipation for the opportunities and growth this year will bring to our students and school community. We hope you had a joyful and restful holiday season, creating lasting memories with family and friends.

The start of a new year is always a wonderful time to reflect on past accomplishments and set new goals. Looking back at 2024, we are incredibly proud of the progress our students have made, the dedication of our teachers and staff, and the ongoing support from you—our valued partners in education. Together, we have built a nurturing environment where every child feels encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

As we embark on the second half of the school year, we remain committed to fostering a love for learning and ensuring every student achieves their full potential. Here are a few highlights and updates to look forward to:

  • Family Events:

    • Sweetheart Night in February

    • Read Across America Night in March

  • Academic Goals:

    • Continued focus on building foundational skills in reading, writing, and math.

    • Introducing new enrichment opportunities to challenge and inspire our learners.

  • Community Involvement:

    • Strengthening partnerships with families

    • Encouraging more parent and guardian participation in PTO meetings and school events.

Your involvement plays a crucial role in your child’s success. Whether it’s reading together at home, attending school events, or simply offering words of encouragement, your support makes all the difference. Let’s continue to work hand in hand to ensure this year is as impactful and rewarding as possible.

As always, we welcome your feedback and ideas. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or suggestions. Together, let’s make 2025 a remarkable year for our students and our school community.

Wishing you a year filled with happiness, health, and success.

Warm regards,

Tina Brackley McDonald

Cold Weather

As winter has arrived, it's important for students to be well-prepared for the chilly weather outside during recess. Students will go outside unless the feel like temp is below 10 degrees. We don't have a lot of coats for student to borrow daily so it is important for them to come with one.

If your student needs winter gear please let us know and we will try out best to help!

Happy New Year! We’re kicking off the new year with a free choice day, and then we are focusing on floor hockey. Free Choice days are important for kids to develop meaningful connections in sports and activities that THEY love and get to choose. Spending time exploring what they like can promote an active lifestyle.

Hussey Cards are available for $10 in the Office. Funds raised go to support student activities here at the school.

We meet monthly on the 1st Thursday of the Month at 5:30 PM in the library.

Attendance Matters

At Hussey Elementary School, we are committed to providing the best education and opportunities for your child’s success. A key factor in achieving this is regular attendance.

Why Attendance Matters

  • Academic Success: Students who attend school consistently are more likely to excel academically.

  • Social Development: Regular attendance helps build strong relationships with teachers and peers.

  • Future Opportunities: Good attendance habits prepare students for future responsibilities in education and the workforce.

How You Can Help

  1. Establish Routines: Set consistent bedtime and morning schedules to help your child arrive at school on time.

  2. Plan Ahead: Schedule medical appointments or family trips outside of school hours whenever possible.

  3. Communicate: If your child must miss school, let us know and work with teachers to ensure they catch up on missed lessons.

Did You Know?

Students who miss even just two days of school per month may fall behind academically, making it harder to catch up and succeed.

We understand that emergencies and illnesses happen, and we are here to support you and your child in these situations. Let’s work together to make attendance a priority and set our students up for success.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
