October 2025
Principal's Corner

Dear Families,

As we welcome October, I want to take a moment to celebrate what a wonderful September it has been here at Hussey. Our students have shown incredible enthusiasm, growth, and kindness in all they do. We are so proud of their hard work and the positive energy they bring to our school community every day. Thank you to our families and staff for supporting such a fantastic start to the school year!

We will be administering the Through Year NWEA assessments in reading and math for students in grades 3 through 6 during the week of October 6th. Our 1st and 2nd graders will take the MAP Growth test from NWEA the same week.

We also look forward to hosting in-person Parent-Teacher Conferences the week of October 14th. This is an important opportunity to connect, discuss your child’s progress, and set goals for a successful year. Information about scheduling your conference will be shared soon. Please call the office if you need help scheduling one. Teachers have reached out through Class DoJo.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students’ success. Here’s to a fantastic October!

Warmly,
Tina Brackley McDonald
Principal, Hussey School

Tips for Parents: Preparing the Night Before Testing

To help your child feel confident and ready for their assessment, here are a few simple things you can do the night before:

  • Ensure a Good Night’s Sleep: A well-rested mind performs best! Aim for 8-10 hours of sleep depending on your child’s age.

  • Healthy Dinner: Offer a balanced meal with protein, veggies, and whole grains to fuel their brain.

  • Limit Screen Time: Encourage a calm evening by limiting TV, video games, and other screens before bedtime.

  • Organize Materials: Make sure your child’s school device is charged and ready, along with any needed supplies.

  • Encourage a Positive Mindset: Remind your child that tests are just one way to show what they know and that you’re proud of their effort no matter what.

  • Plan a Relaxing Routine: Reading a book or talking about their day can help ease any test anxiety.

Thank you for helping your child feel their best and do their best!

Attendances

We are pleased to share some great news about student attendance! For the month of September, our school achieved a 97% daily attendance rate. This marks an improvement from 96% in September of last year, and it's a testament to the strong partnership between our school and our families.

We want to take a moment to say thank you to all of our families for your continued commitment to ensuring that students are in school, on time, and ready to learn. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in a student’s academic success, and every single day of learning makes a difference. When students attend school consistently, they build essential skills, stay connected with their peers and teachers, and are better prepared for future opportunities.

We recognize that it’s not always easy to maintain perfect attendance, especially with busy schedules, illnesses, or unexpected challenges. But your efforts to prioritize school, communicate with us when issues arise, and encourage good attendance habits at home are making a real impact.

Let’s keep the momentum going! Together, we can continue to build a strong foundation for learning—because Every Day Counts!

Thank you for your ongoing support!
