Celebrating Excitement and Festivity at Lincoln
principals message

It is that time of year where our playground will soon be covered with snow! To make for an enjoyable recess, we ask that students come dressed for the weather with hats, mittens, coats, ski pants, and boots. Students are expected to wear their winter gear in order to have fun on the playground. We are unable to provide spare winter gear for recess times. If there are any families in need of assistance with obtaining winter gear for their child, please contact Nurse Abby or Ms. Kelsey Rohman, our school counselor, for help. Parents are encouraged to label their child’s winter gear in the event that items get misplaced. On extremely cold days, the school goes by the magic number of 10 (or feels like 10) to determine whether it is appropriate for students to play outside. As much as possible, we want our students to get fresh air, but will only do so when it is appropriate and safe for them.

With the holidays approaching, there is always a certain level of excitement and energy in the air with both our students and staff. We will be having some fun themed to celebrate the coming holiday vacation. Make sure to check out our website and school Facebook page for important notifications!

Spotlight on Kindergarten

Kindergarten is off to a great start this year. We have done a lot of fun things in a short amount of time. Aside from learning foundational skills of reading, writing, and math, we also learned a lot about seasonal changes and how to be a good school citizen. Kindergarten had a visit from the fire department to learn all about what to do if there is a fire and we got to go out and walk around the fire truck to see all of the equipment needed to fight a fire. Kindergarten is always a little batty, but we got really batty in October when we learned about these nocturnal animals and even made some bat rockets that we experimented with to see how far they could fly. The kindergarteners had a great time! We have also learned about what life was like long ago, and what it might be like in the future. We did a Turkey trot to do activities in all of the Kindergarten classrooms. We are having monthly visits from a nutritionist to learn about healthy eating. Finally, we are now beginning to learn about Winter Holidays around the world.

Take Care Everyone!

Winter Weather Reminders

As we enter the season of unpredictable weather, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance, even on days when the weather may not be ideal. Attendance plays a critical role in your child’s academic success and personal development. Every day of school offers valuable learning experiences that build upon the previous day’s lessons. Missing school can make it challenging for students to keep up with their peers and stay on track with their learning goals.

We understand that safety is a top priority and because of this we utilize delayed starts, early releases and snow days during inclement weather. Delayed starts and early release days are considered academic days and are important for students to attend. School day schedule changes are one of the many challenges that we face with Maine winters. Please make sure to have a backup plan for the changes on delayed start days and early dismissals due to storms.

To support families, we offer updated information on weather-related delays or closures through our website, phone bursts and our school social media page. Regular school bus transportation still operates on delayed starts, please make sure to be at the bus stops 2 hours later than the normal time. Additionally, if you are experiencing transportation challenges during inclement weather, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office as absences may be verified on a case by case situation.
