Staying Healthy This Season & Staying Warm Outdoors
Dear Families,
As we move through cold and flu season—and into colder weather—I wanted to share a few helpful reminders to keep our students feeling their best and ready to learn each day.
Preventing Upper Respiratory Illness
Colds, flu, RSV, and other respiratory illnesses are common this time of year, but there are simple steps we can all take to reduce the spread:
Hand hygiene matters! Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after coughing or sneezing.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow (not hands).
Keep hands away from faces as much as possible—eyes, nose, and mouth are common entry points for germs.
Stay home when sick. If your child has a fever, persistent cough, sore throat, vomiting, or generally doesn’t feel well, keeping them home helps them recover and protects others.
Rest, fluids, and nutrition go a long way toward supporting growing immune systems.
If you’re ever unsure whether your child should attend school, feel free to reach out to Nurse Abby.
Cold Weather Gear = Happy Kids Outside!
Outdoor recess is an important part of our school day—even in colder temperatures! Please help your child be prepared to enjoy it safely and comfortably.
Please remember to pack (and label!):
Warm coat
Hat
Gloves or mittens
Snow pants
Boots
Children without appropriate gear may be uncomfortable or need to limit outdoor play, so having these items makes a big difference. If providing cold-weather clothing is a challenge for your family, please know that help is available—don’t hesitate to contact the school for support.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our school community healthy, warm, and thriving. As always, I’m here if you have questions or concerns.
