October Newsletter

Stay up to date on what's happening here at Lincoln
Principal's Message

We have a new monthly newsletter format we are promoting through our district website.  Moving forward, our newsletters will be completely online; we can provide hardcopies per parent request.  October is a very busy month, so we will continue to post reminders to our families on everything coming up!

We will be administering the Through Year NWEAs in October for reading and math for grades 3- 6 as part of the state assessment. The week of 10/07/24, students will be taking the assessment on their school devices. Our students in 1st and 2nd grade will take the MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® the week of 9/30/24. Kindergarten students will participate in the assessment during the winter window. For more information about MAP Growth, parent/ guardians can visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.or the Maine Department of Education, under the assessment tab.

The NWEAs results help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor targeted interventions for students and to inform their instruction. The NWEA assessments are unique and adapt to student’s responses to measure their skill level. These results will provide a more complete picture of what students know and are ready to learn. Following each testing period, parents will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how their child is performing academically.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be taking place the week of 10/14/24.  Teachers will be reaching out to parents to set up a time to meet to discuss your child’s progress at the half-way point in the trimester.  This is a good time to connect with your child’s teacher to hear all the great things that are going on and recommendations of things that can be done at home to help retain skills.  Conferences will continue to be held either in-person, via zoom, or through phone calls.
Academically yours,

Mrs. Gauthier

Fourth Grade Update

Fourth grade has had an amazing start to the school year! In math, we have been learning about prime and composite numbers as well as factors and multiples. We have been working on learning about writing personal narratives with good leads and interesting details. In reading, we have been learning about open and closed syllables, base words, word roots, and some prefixes and suffixes. Fourth graders have also been practicing questioning strategies and making text connections to help with reading comprehension. We were lucky to be able to visit the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay to learn more about the Wabnaki, Maine's indigenous people. The fourth graders were excited to go on such a great field experience so soon in the school year, and they represented the Lincoln community well. Mrs. DeJongh and Mrs. Poulin would like to thank all of the adults who could help support the students for this great opportunity!
